Get your group into the room
Create a workspace, share its invite link, and meet in the same room. Everyone signs in with Google or an email link. WorkDash runs in your browser.
How room-based voice works
In world mode, entering a room joins its voice conversation. You hear the people in that room. Leaving it changes who you hear. WorkDash does not fade audio by distance within a room.
If you cannot hear each other
- Check that both avatars are in the same room and that neither microphone is muted.
- Allow microphone access in your browser's site permissions. Check your operating system's microphone permissions too.
- Confirm your selected microphone and speakers, especially after connecting headphones.
- Reload and rejoin if permissions changed. Use headphones to avoid speaker echo.
WorkDash is still in early access. If the issue continues, email workdash@gmail.com with your browser, device, and the steps that caused it. Do not include passwords or invite links.
Common questions
- Is WorkDash free?
- Yes. There is no card, no seats and nothing for sale, because there is no billing built yet. If paid extras ever arrive, voice, the room and your chat history stay free. It is in early access, so expect rough edges.
- Is WorkDash a free Gather alternative?
- For small groups, yes. Gather ended its free plan in September 2025. WorkDash has the parts small groups use most (a 2D world with voice by room, video and screen sharing) and is free. It is built for groups of up to about twenty, and it does not do large events or maps you design yourself.
- How many people fit in a room?
- About twenty is comfortable. WorkDash is built for a friend group where everyone knows each other, not for a large community server.
- How is this different from Discord?
- Discord has drop-in voice channels and shows who is in them. WorkDash adds a 2D world where entering a room joins its conversation. You hear everyone in your current room; audio does not fade with distance inside it.
- Do we have to leave Discord?
- No. Keep your server for what it does well. WorkDash is the room you hang out in, in a browser tab next to it.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. WorkDash runs in the browser. You can install it as an app if you want a separate window, but that is optional.
- Does it work on phones?
- Yes, in your phone's browser. In the world, an on-screen joystick lets you walk around with your thumb. It is early, so a laptop is still the smoother experience.
- How do I sign in?
- With a Google account, or with a magic link sent to your email.
- Do I have to use the 2D world?
- No. Desk mode is the quiet half: channels, threads and screen sharing, with no sprite to move. You can sit in either and switch whenever.
Accounts and privacy
Friends need an account to join a workspace. A room boundary controls the conversation in the app; it is not a claim of end-to-end encryption. Read the privacy policy for data handling and deletion requests, and the terms before using WorkDash.
